Pixar-themed drawing contest

back in July i entered into a local contest to design a large poster-like drawing, and the rules were as follows:

1. Use only Pixar characters  2. Stage them inside a fairy-tale  3. In a foreign country

so this was my crack at it: Ratatouille's Colette as Snow White in the Black Forest, Germany.

though i didn't win anything, it was nice just to be working on a big project

i always like it better before the coloring begins..

After that was done i began a long work on my dear friend's wedding invitation. They're the coolest couple, they wanted to be partying with their favorite characters (plus the usual dragons, dinos and pirates any couple wants for their wedding day - Click to enlarge:)

So though i wasn't able to make the scene as crowded as a "Where's Waldo" page, it was still a pretty "derivative" month of work.
And in September, Michael & Shahar's wedding was even more fun than the illustration :)

Hola!

This is actually new! hoorah. It's a completed drawing made from a recent sketch. a first!
I hope to do more of these soon.


I liked working with a limited palette (as opposed to the non-existing palette i usually use :) and it actually kind of fit what i had in mind when making the very sketchy sketch.

  I imagined her as maybe a singer in a Cuban night club, though i didn't work with any reference. so since I had no ideas for a background, I left her floating on the scanned doodle page, looking at the other crappy doodles in puzzlement, for now.

New Tee Desgin!

OK, not the best way to make a "comeback", but i recently entered a Threadless contest to design my favorite Tee.

This is an idea i've had for a while, and I looove rubber duckies. i mean, who doesn't?

Here Come the Brides

Yay - more "Simchas" on my humble blog!

I've spent most of July working on wedding invitations for two of my friends, brides-to-be, who have always been awesome, and also lucky in finding their "other halves". So now we have four wonderful people, making for two amazing couples :)

This "commission adventure" was trying and exhausting, but also inspiring, fulfilling and a true learning experience. Plus, it's always fun to see satisfied clients, especially knowing them personally (and getting invited, too!).

So we start with Ela and Meir, who are getting married tomorrow (!!) -

lots of ideas had been raised, explored, tried, changed and canceled (most of which revolve around their beloved dog, Pasho):

As you can see, we went for the purple idea at the end, not forgetting Pasho, but also the happy couple itself:

The gifts for the guests in their wedding will be lovely jars of homemade jam, so I also designed the stickers for the jars, which gave Pasho another chance to get center-stage:

See the magic trick? It's the same good old Dana and Arbel, only on this particular day they're more fantastically dressed :)

The animator in me wanted to do an entire (small) flipbook as an invitation, showing their abridged history together (they know each other from infancy!), but budget and logistics forced it out of the question. Oh well, two years ago i was commissioned to make them a comic of their life story, which is proudly hanging in their living room :)
