i don't know the statistics on this, but it seems to me women use public transportation more.
They also turn their heads in more angles i can draw :)

this one had her back to me so i only got the outline of her hair - and added an imaginary face

Like drawing people (while someone else, happily, is in charge of driving!)

 Back in June i traveled with my dad to Munich to see family, and luckily we were able to squeeze in a day in Vienna, which was great (and way too short) - especially this year, when the city celebrated the 150th birthday of artist Gustav Klimt, one of my all-time favorites.

We also witnessed some gut-wrenching art from Klimt's amazing  rock-star student, Egon Schiele! *swoon*

There's so much Klimt-ness to see around the city, it was a crazy 28-hour marathon of museums and galleries sprinkled with Austrian cuisine! a recipe for success :)

Standing in front of their art, for real, was a dream come true... words and photos can't do it justice.
That didn't stop me from going nuts with the picture-taking, which you can see here.

A few months later i found out about the Google Art Project, where the world's museums share parts of their collections in high quality, for free, with advanced search options and detail magnification. It's quite addictive. you can check out the Vienna museums here:

if all the museums opened up to it, it could save me taking hundreds of awful photos :)

Caricatures

I came across a wonderful post on a history blog, about photographer Robert Doisneau, who made an amusing experiment in a gallery window: he positioned a provocative painting on the side of the display case, relatively hidden to the main paintings, and photographed the surprised passers-by.

There were some great faces there (see above link), so it called for a bit of caricaturing:

Old Caricatures

Ok, so these are some caricatures for character design class i did in second year, 1st semester (Sept-Dec 2010)
I've barely ever done any caricaturing before this, so be merciful ;)
.. And take into account i had tendinitis in both forearms for most of that semester!
  See how i suddenly made them look less sucky? magic.

 I have this hedious habit of starting to draw right near the edges of the page.. gotta stop that.

I find most of them have emphasis, pencil pressure, in weird places. That's something to watch out for, in future works i hope :)

Here Come the Brides

Yay - more "Simchas" on my humble blog!

I've spent most of July working on wedding invitations for two of my friends, brides-to-be, who have always been awesome, and also lucky in finding their "other halves". So now we have four wonderful people, making for two amazing couples :)

This "commission adventure" was trying and exhausting, but also inspiring, fulfilling and a true learning experience. Plus, it's always fun to see satisfied clients, especially knowing them personally (and getting invited, too!).

So we start with Ela and Meir, who are getting married tomorrow (!!) -

lots of ideas had been raised, explored, tried, changed and canceled (most of which revolve around their beloved dog, Pasho):

As you can see, we went for the purple idea at the end, not forgetting Pasho, but also the happy couple itself:

The gifts for the guests in their wedding will be lovely jars of homemade jam, so I also designed the stickers for the jars, which gave Pasho another chance to get center-stage:

See the magic trick? It's the same good old Dana and Arbel, only on this particular day they're more fantastically dressed :)

The animator in me wanted to do an entire (small) flipbook as an invitation, showing their abridged history together (they know each other from infancy!), but budget and logistics forced it out of the question. Oh well, two years ago i was commissioned to make them a comic of their life story, which is proudly hanging in their living room :)
